Said Nasreddin, come brother and listen
To this riddle of two platforms -
One the pulpit, tall and narrow,
The other the stage, broad and wide.
Where one is invested with steadfast grace
The other unleashes the fanatic within;
And always I see, when the monk moves
From one to the other, his soul slides
From its quest for peace and truth
To a mission for posturing and power.
So tell me, what be wide and what narrow,
And what dost thou wish to seek tomorrow?
